Our Family Law Services

Divorce and Dissolution

We handle no-fault divorce and civil partnership dissolution from application to final order, including cases where your spouse isn’t cooperating or lives abroad.

Financial Settlements and Consent Orders

Getting divorced doesn’t end financial claims between you. We negotiate and draft consent orders that make your agreement on property, pensions and savings legally binding.

Child Arrangements

We advise on where children live, how they spend time with each parent, and what to do when you can’t agree.

Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements

Protect assets before or during marriage with an agreement drafted to give it the best chance of being upheld.

Separation Agreements

Set out how finances and children will be handled if you’re separating but not yet divorcing.

Cohabitation Agreements

Unmarried couples have far fewer legal protections than married couples. A cohabitation agreement records who owns what and what happens if you split.

Fixed Fees and a Free First Conversation

You’ll know the cost upfront, with no surprise bills. Talk to us without obligation to see if we’re the right fit. Many of our specialist lawyers have been through separation themselves and understand the emotional side as well as the legal one.

Specialist, Regulated and Accountable

Family law is what we do. We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), and our clients have access to The Legal Ombudsman. Rigorous procedures keep client money and information secure.

Modern and Accessible

Video calls, live chat, messaging and a 24/7 secure client portal mean you can deal with us around work and family life, wherever you are in England and Wales.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a divorce take in England and Wales?

There is a minimum of 20 weeks between the court issuing the divorce application and applying for the conditional order, then at least six weeks and one day before the final order. Most divorces take around six to nine months. We usually advise agreeing finances before the final order is made.

Do I need a reason to get divorced?

No. Since April 2022, divorce in England and Wales has been no fault. You only need to state that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, and you can apply alone or jointly with your spouse.

Does divorce settle our finances?

No. Your ex-spouse can still make a financial claim against you after divorce unless a court-approved financial order is in place. A consent order makes an agreed settlement legally binding and can provide a clean break.

Are prenuptial agreements legally binding in the UK?

Prenups are not automatically binding in England and Wales, but courts will usually uphold them if both people entered into them freely, had full financial disclosure, received independent legal advice and signed well before the wedding.

What rights do unmarried couples have if they split up?

There is no such thing as common law marriage in England and Wales. Unmarried partners have no automatic right to maintenance or a share of property in the other’s name, which is why a cohabitation agreement is important.

Do I have to go to court to sort out arrangements for my children?

Not usually. Most parents agree arrangements themselves or through mediation. In most cases you must attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before you can apply to court.

Can you help if I don’t live near Swindon or Llanelli?

Yes. Most of our clients work with us remotely by phone, video and our online portal, wherever they live in England and Wales.

How much does a family law solicitor cost?

We offer fixed fees for most services, so you’ll know the cost before we start. Court fees, such as the divorce application fee, are paid separately. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote.
